The Whac-A-Mole Years
Halloween? CHECK. Now, it’s the quick and maddening descent to No School November, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, New Year’s, and 2022 will be here. Two months to go. 8 weeks. You ready? No, me neither. Plus, inconveniently, I have a fairly big high school reunion to consider - well, big in number of years since graduation, not big in terms of excitement or attendance. I mean, it’s Thanksgiving weekend — which is a great time for everyone when it’s been 5 years or maybe e

At 16 and in 10th grade, my kid went to their first fancy school dance this weekend. The 8th grade dinner dance was cancelled - along with everything else - in Spring 2020. Freshman year saw a school bonfire, an outdoor movie night, but no Homecoming Dance. The Food Bank brought a truck and set up a distribution station; the National Guard Public Health team set up a COVID and flu vaccine station. And over the course of two hours, nearly 75 families came through — including mine, once I found out about the flu shots, because how easy is that? No appointmen
Slow Down
It’s October, so naturally you can buy your Christmas Tree at Lowes and there is a whole holiday baking section set up at Acme. Guys, we have got to get through this month first. We’ve got Homecomings and Halloween parties, tournaments and tailgates, school projects and school application deadlines. It’s all happening. Like, literally, it’s ALL happening, all at once. I’ve got calendars for my calendars and trying to plan our meals around what can be served, enjoyed, and clea
