Picture this: happily working along, updating the Buzz Facebook page and checking in on the Facebook feeds of a few clients (in addition to Buzz, I run a separate digital marketing biz) and I get a wonky Facebook pop-up - "Please upload a photo of yourself which clearly shows your face. When you send us a photo, we'll check it and then permanently delete it from our servers.” Total scam, right? I mean, I’m a rapidly-approaching middle-age mom with three kids and plenty of baggage. Who *wouldn’t* want me to send them a pic of me?? Nope, I googled it and sure enough, it’s a new captcha security thing that FB rolled out. So I upload my pic and wait. And wait. And wait.

I try to find a phone number. I submit a help request. A lovely mom who is an admin on N. Wilm Moms group tried to message an admin. I created a new profile and did some work stuff that way while my personal page completely disappeared from Facebook. I worked and made lunches and folded laundry and drove to theatre and flag football and tennis and school and celebrated my twins’ 10th birthday and here.is.what.I.learned.

Facebook is like carbs. After three days, you don’t really miss it.

Fast forward a little bit and on day 11, I wandered over to see if I could log back in and I could! I was back! Except … did I want to be back? I was able to work just fine with my work-around solution (a new account that only had pages in the feed - no friends - so I could get all the viral nonsense and news updates and local flavor but none of the sanctimommies and the frenemy drama and especially none of the personal politics). But - my friend Erik’s baby. And the pictures of my cousins in Connecticut. And funny stuff that my friend Jen always shares. And whatever papers are due at school that some mom is reminding me about.

A compromise is in order.
